Eco Oro
The Santurban paramo has become an example of community struggle to protect water sources successfully. Lawyers, community leaders and activists united to mobilized and demanded the protection of natural resources threatened by Vancouver-based Eco Oro projects. A palpable urgency surrounds this story because of the fragility of the paramo - high-altitude wetlands - which supplies fresh water to the vast regions around Bucaramanga.

Gran Colombia Gold
The story of how Gran Colombia Gold came to be formed is the story the abuses of power against a worker's union as a rightful owner of the mine. The video will focus on the situation in Segovia, a town with a long and proud tradition in gold mining. The Toronto-based corporation may be involved with the murder of president of the Regional Union Mining and Energy workers, Rafael Tobon Zea, in 2011, and has been accused of paramilitary connections.

The company's exploitation of the Caño Limon field for over 20 years has earned the company millions of dollars and has also attracted massive militarization to the area through US military aid, making the area into a war zone as workers, campesinos, indigenous groups get caught in the crossfire. In spite of the militarization, paramilitary groups continue to terrorize human rights defenders, trade unionists and indigenous peoples. We follow the stories of Oxy's expansion into sacred Indigenous territories, pollution and violence against activists and trade unionists.

After causing a catastrophic oil spill in the gulf of Mexico BP was forced to sell the majority of its international shares. In Colombian BP sold its operations to Equion Energía, which is comprised of Ecopetrol and Canadian-based Talisman energy (51% and 49% respectively) for $1.9 billion dollars. When Talisman Energy arrived in the region, three vocal presidents of community organizing committees “Juntas of Communal Action” have been assassinated. We follow hector Camargo, a community leader and campesino who shares his concern with the current Seismic exploration, environmental implications, social and security problems as Equion continues its production his community of El Morro.

Largest gold mining multinational in Colombia by area of titles of subsidiaries owned. Several organizations, such as UCAT (Campesino Small-scale Farmers’ Union) have been created to resist the La Colosa project, which would destroy several hectares of paramo natural reserves. We follow an youth-led environmental protection group who are in resistance to the mine in their town of Cajamarca. Anglo Gold Ashanti has been openly criticized for worrying coincidences with paramilitary occupation in the areas it operates. Partnered with Vancouver-based B2Gold.
